**Book Announcement**

Marriage and Family in Modern China: A Psychoanalytic Exploration

by Dr. David E. Scharff

This book explores the relationship between currents in modern Chinese marriages and families, including the evolution of sexuality in Chinese families and adolescents, and their intersection with modern Chinese history and culture. The book features detailed clinical interventions with couples and families that illustrate the problems in forming couples, sexuality and child rearing in contemporary China.

Elaine Jeffreys, PhD, Professor, University of Technology, Sydney, Australia; author of Sex in China, writes:

This immensely rich book offers profound insights into Chinese ways of life and Chinese society. Through reading detailed and often touching interviews and therapies with Chinese couples and families, the reader will learn how China’s history and rapid modernization influence families and pose often complicated challenges for young people raising children. The book’s insightful information about Chinese society and history gives a unique contextual background, offering profound insights for all with interest in China. The book is furthermore an excellent textbook for psychoanalytic couple and family therapy.
