2022 Scientific Network Conference
Extending Our Reach: Broadening the Boundaries of Oncosexual Health
November 17-18, 2022
Yale University, New Haven, CT
This year's conference theme is "Extending Our Reach: Broadening the Boundaries of Oncosexual Health.” Our goal is to shed light on often overlooked aspects of oncosexuality, such as helping women with advanced disease and addressing populations of women who do not get the attention they need with regard to their disease, survivorship, and sexuality. Our invited speakers will highlight broad and sexuality-specific survivorship issues pertaining to global health, women with metastatic disease, and rarer cancers in women. As is our tradition, we will also be welcoming one of our local survivors to offer her perspectives during Thursday evening's dinner.
The conference aims to help close a significant gap in care for female cancer survivors by providing clinicians with the knowledge, tools, and training to address the sexual side effects of cancer treatment. CME credits will be available. The conference is geared towards physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and physical therapists who care for women with a history of cancer. However, anyone with an interest in improving the sexual health care of women with cancer is encouraged to attend.

U.S. Culture contains a plethora of desexualizing narratives about aging. Therapists and patients often buy into myths believing sex in later life is destined to be limited and disappointing. After years of substandard sex in long-term relationships some seniors enter couple therapy feeling
hopeless and skeptical that erotic life is possible especially as they experience the physical impact of aging. This presentation will discuss how to identify and transform limiting cultural and personal narratives, thus creating potential erotic space within which couples discover lightness and play. Case material will illustrate how to integrate new narrative frames and technique into therapy with senior couples.
SUZANNE IASENZA, PhD is on the faculties of the Adelphi University Derner Institute’s Postgraduate Program in Psychoanalysis, and the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP), where she also serves as Co-Director of the Sex Therapy Training Program (STP). She also teaches at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy and the Family Institute of Westchester. She maintains a private practice in psychotherapy and sex therapy in New York. Her latest book, Transforming Sexual Narratives: A Relational Approach to Sex Therapy was published by Routledge.

**Call for Study Participants**
Dear SSTARgazers,
We are inviting clinics to partner with us for our eSense scale-up study. eSense is an online platform that delivers Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-Based treatments adapted for web-based, self-directed therapy for women’s sexual concerns. Over the past four years, Dr. Kyle Stephenson and I have developed eSense with the goal of improving access to treatment options for women’s sexual difficulties.
At present, we are nearing the end of our randomized trial evaluating the two arms of eSense for sexual difficulties. We will then be moving on to the scale-up phase where we are partnering with clinics in North America to offer eSense to women with low desire or arousal who will not immediately be receiving formal treatment from the clinic (i.e., women who are on the wait list for formal treatment or women who decided that they are no longer interested in formal treatment).
This scale-up phase is based on Implementation Science, and we are primarily interested in how people use eSense in the real world and how it may fit in with the existing structure of your clinic. Your role as a clinic partner would be to collect and record very basic information from potential participants and to let them know about our study.
If this partnership may be of interest to you, please reach out to Elizabeth Mahar at elizabeth.mahar@ubc.ca. We are happy to provide you with additional information about the study and answer any questions that you may have.
Sincerely,
Lori Brotto & Kyle Stephenson
