An Integrative Harm Reduction Approach to Working with Out of Control Sexual Behavior (OCSB): Helping men become who they want to be sexually.
Wendy E. Miller, PhD and Andrew Tatarsky, PhD
Friday, November 20, 2020
6:30PM to 8:30PM
PPSC
Live Webinar on Zoom!
Covid Discount: $50 Regular Admission and $30 Student
Miller and Tatarsky will apply Andrew Tatarsky’s Integrative Harm Reduction Psychotherapy (IHRP) model for working with addictive and risky behaviors to working therapeutically with men who feel out of control with their sexual behavior. This includes men who want to stop or reduce having affairs, seeing sex workers, watching pornography, visiting chat rooms and strip clubs and having casual sex with all genders. Often, but not always, drugs or alcohol is involved in these compulsive behaviors. They will integrate IHRP with the pioneering work of Doug Braun Harvey and Michael Vigorito, who were the first to coin the term OCSB. IHRP brings together relational psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness strategies in a harm reduction frame, integrating IHRP’s seven therapeutic tasks with OCSB’s six sexual health principals to create a solid platform for treatment. Miller and Tatarsky will also discuss the interrelationship between sexual shame, conflict, and OCSB as well as the importance of helping individuals to balance risk with pleasure as a goal in treatment. We invite reflection on the particular ways in which these men are demonized in our society.

The Leather Couch: Clinical Practice with Kinky Clients
By Stefani Goerlich
The Leather Couch provides a comprehensive overview of the BDSM and kink community and guides clinicians on how to meet the unique relational and mental health needs of its members.
The text offers a 101-style introduction to BDSM before delving into topics ranging from intersectionality within the kink community, to conducting a kink-affirming risk assessment and how to discern between domestic violence and consensual power-exchange. The author explores differential diagnoses and clinical concerns that are relevant to health care providers, including social workers and therapists as well as primary care physicians and sex educators.
Interwoven throughout with real-world case studies, each chapter presents practical suggestions, tools, and handouts the reader can use to inform their practice and serve clients in ways that meet the needs of each individual, couple, or partnership.
Written in a conversational, accessible style for clinicians and members of the BDSM community alike, The Leather Couch is the go-to resource for any mental health professional or educator looking to transform their practice from kink aware to kink affirming.
