About the event

The Two Faces of Trauma in Infidelity in the Digital Age: A Collaborative Approach to Addressing Betrayal Trauma of Both The Betrayed and the Betrayer

Presenter: Peter Kanaris, PhD

Date: Friday, October 20, 2023

Time: 9:00 am PST – 12:10 pm PST

Duration:Approximately 3 hours

Description of Event:

The trauma of betrayal in intimate relationships has long been the central issue in the effort to repair the relationship. Most treatments have focused on the trauma of the betrayed. While this is essential, the trauma of the betrayer is often neglected. Shame, guilt, and anger are often present in both partners. Developmental traumas of each partner often complicate recovery. Handling the complexities of traumas both in the contemporary sense and revealed in developmental histories is a challenge in the treatment. This presentation will elaborate The Collaborative Treatment approach to conjointly address the complex traumas in intimate partner betrayal. The special issues and challenges presented by cyberinfidelity will be addressed with ample case illustrations and time for discussion.

Audience and Level of Instruction:

This webinar is tailored for practicing mental health practitioners and will include advanced content taught at the post-doctoral level.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this presentation, the learner will be able to:

1. Identify the traumas of both partners in intimate partner betrayal.

2. Describe how the Collaborative Treatment Model addresses complex trauma conjointly.

Subject: Let's Talk About Sex - 3 CEs, online Nov 10th

Let’s Talk About Sex! How to Talk with Clients About Sex and Intimacy When You Aren’t a Sex Therapist

When: Friday, Nov 10, 1pm to 4:15pm

Where: Online (live and interactive webinar)

Speakers: Sarah Levinson, LMSW, Esq. and Mark Sisti, PhD

This workshop is for therapists who are not trained as sex therapists but who want some solid strategies for getting the topic of sex and intimacy on the table.  It isn't meant to be a substitute for formal training in sex therapy.  The aim is to provide a foundation in exploration and assessment so that we can determine if our clients need a referral to a sex therapist or if they just need a safe space in which to explore this often taboo topic.  Sarah Levinson and Mark Sisti have depth in this area and are delightful presenters.

The Sexual Health Research Lab at Queen’s University is recruiting sexuality experts to participate in a new online study.
